Preschool Registration 2020-2021

The CoVid-19 Executive Orders from the Governor of NJ have impacted our ability to conduct in person registration as we have in the past.  As a result, we implemented a lottery to be fair and equitable.  Priority will be given to students who are four years of age on or before October 1, 2020, with the remaining seats being assigned to three year olds who are selected in the lottery.  The deadline to submit your information on the link was June 30, 2020.  The lottery was conducted on July 1, 2020 and parents were notified of acceptance or wait list status. Preschool acceptance numbers are subject to change based on funding for the Preschool Program from the NJ Department of Education.
Any accepted student should submit their online registration prior to Friday, July 17 so it can be processed.

THE LOTTERY IS NOW CLOSED.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many seats are available?

The number of preschool slots is dependent upon State funding.  Due to Covid-19, there is uncertainty in terms of the State Aide HTSD will receive for our preschool program. With that said, the number of three and four year old preschool slots is undetermined at this time.  However, it is important to note that the children who participated in our 3 year old program during the 2019-2020 school year will automatically have seats as a four year old for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition, students who were on the waitlist from the 2019-20 Preschool Program will automatically have a seat in the program for 2020-21.

2. How old do the students need to be to be eligible for preschool?

The program will be made available to all Hamilton Township families with a child that will be three (3) or four (4) years old on or before October 1, 2020. NOTE: Students will be selected through a lottery with priority given to students who will be four (4) years old on or before October 1, 2020.

3. How will the lottery be done?

A random number generated lottery will be held on July 1, 2020 for all four (4) year old students that enter the lottery. A separate number generated lottery will also be completed for the three (3) year olds. The lottery is not open to the public, but will be recorded. Students who are not selected through the random number generated lottery will be placed on a wait list. Once again, priority will be given to students who will be four on or before October 1, 2020.

4. When will the families be informed if they were selected for the program?

Families will be informed of the lottery results via email no later than July 8, 2020. Selected families will receive instructions on how to register their child at that time. An orientation meeting for the families who are selected to participate in the program will be made available prior to the start of the program. The date of the orientation meeting has not yet been determined.

5. When does the program start?

The program will start on the first school day of the 2020-2021 school year as per the district’s school calendar.

6. What curriculum will be used for preschool?

All classrooms will be using the Creative Curriculum for instruction. All staff in the classrooms will be trained in the implementation of the state approved curriculum.

7. Do the students have to be “potty” trained to attend the program?

A student will not be excluded from the program if they are not “potty” trained.

8. Will the families who are selected through the lottery have a choice as to where their child will attend preschool?

No, families will not have a choice of school. Care and consideration is taken at the district level as various factors are considered in placing students at each school. Families may decline their child’s spot if they choose to do so.

9. Is this a full day preschool program?

The preschool program is a full day program consisting of six (6) hours.  Start and end times will vary between schools.  Attending for only a half day is NOT an option.

10. Will there be a rest period during the day?

Yes, all students will have a one hour rest period during the day.  Cots are provided for all students.  For students who do not nap, the expectation is that they lie quietly and rest their bodies during this time.

11. Can my child attend the program only 2 or 3 days a week?

No, this is a FULL DAY-5 day a week program.  Your child is expected to participate in the program all 5 days.  Attendance will be closely monitored.

12. Will transportation be provided?

Yes, transportation is available for all students. Families can choose to deny transportation during the lottery process.

13. Will before or after school childcare be available?

Childcare is not available for preschool students within HTSD.  However, students can be picked up or dropped off at private provider preschool centers or a babysitters within Mays Landing. Gateway Head Start provides a before and after school program.
